Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At age 27 he began his studies at the National Theatre School of Denmark at which he graduated in 1995. He was also a part of The Killing, a drama series that was broadcast worldwide. Then, he appeared in Borgen III and Those Who Kill, two internationally popular Danish drama series. He also played the lead part in an episode of the BBC drama Sherlock as the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. He played the Russian president in the American television series House of Cards. He received an International Emmy Award in 2018 in recognition of his part in the Danish television drama Herrens Veje. This series was telecast in the UK as Ride Upon the Storm in 2019. According to Mikkelsen's story his sources, he learned English from his brother by watching Monty Python recordings and watching the comedy sketches.

Silk was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Ilkay Silk is the daughter of Peter Silk, who is an academic and Anna Silk, who's an actress, director as well as a producer and playwright.
